Virginia Is For Hansons

There was a rowing parent's meeting at the beginning of the season and Coach explained to us how boats were chosen - who was on what boats and how the coaches decided that. He talked about the initial  simplicity of it. You put the strongest rowers together to make the fastest boat because obviously, fast boats are the ultimate goal. They use numbers and data and times. And on paper, the rowers with the best numbers make the fastest boats.  And then he said the word, "magic". He said once we get all the numbers and data and times in place we wait to see if there's magic. You can have the best looking boat on paper but without a little bit of magic, there might not be much there.  This year Viv's boat has struggled with the magic. There've been flickers but no real sparks. Strong personalities and sometimes stronger egos seem to have gotten in the way of organic teamwork.  But then Saturday happened. Maxwell, Henry and Gracie were missing from the Shanson reunion but we still had a great weekend. We toured DC, we saw some fast races and we spent Easter Sunday at the National Zoo.  Friends who are like family, are the best kind!  DC on a beautiful day  Ryz Obuchowicz Regatta  Team Viv!  The National Zoo 

There were some FAST boats this weekend! Lots of seat changes were made last week, and Viv rowed stroke seat for the 1V Womens boat for the first time on Saturday. She was equal parts excited and terrified!  The team was had the fourth fastest time out of 13 boats, but had a tough draw and didn't make the finals. Viv was still proud of her boat and of her showing though!  Pull for Woodson!!   4/5/25 was The Valkyrie's inaugural race These two are a force to be reckoned with!!
